"Reach For the Stars" Bnai Mitzvah Videoconference

Students from Sharet High School in Netanya and bnai mitzvah students from eight area congregations including Wise, Adath, Beth Israel, Rockdale/Temple Sholom, CHDS, and the synagogue in Middletown, will gather on Sunday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the HUC Foundation Videoconference room, located on the Hebrew Union College campus at 3101 Clifton Avenue.

Rona Ramone, widow of the late Israeli Astronaut Ilan Ramone who perished in the Columbia shuttle and Henry Fenischel, local U.C. Professor and Holocaust Survivor will tell their stories in a Partnership 2000 Cincinnati-Netanya student satellite videoconference. Ramone (who lives in Israel) will be broadcast live from Netanya, Israel along with Israeli students and Dr. Joachim Joseph, Professor Emeritus at Tel Aviv University, the Holocaust survivor who was linked to Israeli Astronaut Ilan Ramone.

It was this same videoconference last year the began the sequence of events that led to Henry Fensichel’s torah scroll being taken aboard the Atlantis Atlantis Space Shuttle ST-115 Mission September 2006.  On December 5, 2006 Steve MacLean, NASA astronaut and Rona Ramon returned the tiny torah to Henry during an emotional ceremony in Cincinnati.
