U.S. Senator Rob Portman sent a video message (to the right) to the attendees of the Cincinnati Stands with Israel rally on July 27, 2014.
U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup spoke out in solidarity with Israel (below).
Other local elected officials have made statements in support of Israel:
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
In the wake of unprovoked attacks on Israel by the Hamas terrorist organization, Sen. Brown announced his cosponsorship of a resolution supporting Israel and its right to defend its citizens.
“Israel has a right and an obligation to defend its people against indiscriminate rocket attacks launched by a terrorist group,” Brown said. “The American people stand alongside our closest ally in the Middle East in opposing these senseless provocations.”
Rep. Chabot met with Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer to speak about the situation in Israel. Rep. Chabot, a senior Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and former Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Middle East and South Asia, released the following statement regarding the recent attacks on Israel earlier in the week:
“In the last few days, terrorists have launched more than 200 rocket attacks on Israel, targeting major population centers. Hamas has released propaganda videos threatening even more attacks.
I strongly support Israel’s right to defend itself from these cold-blooded acts of terrorism. I have been a longtime supporter of Iron Dome, which has intercepted dozens of rockets this week. And I support Operation Protective Edge -- Israel’s self defense strategy to end the rocket fire and restore security. Israel has every right to stand up and protect its people from Hamas aggression and I urge the Obama Administration to stand with our great friend and ally at this critical time.”
House Speaker Boehner made the following remarks at the National Leadership Assembly for Israel:
“In times like this, people try to isolate Israel - but we are here to stand with Israel. Not just as a broker or observer - but as a strong partner and a trusted ally.
“What does that mean? Well, it doesn’t mean using vague, on-the-one-hand, on-the-other-hand statements. No, it means backing up our words, and showing our solidarity with our friend."
We urge you to thank these senators and representatives for showing their strong support of Israel, or to contact others to ask them to stand with Israel and its right to defend itself.
“It's crucial that people speak up. Decisions that are made hinge on the actions of a small group of people. In the end there are a lot of people who feel strongly but don't take action, and there are those people who turn their passion into action and they make a huge difference. And it holds for our political system. Put yourself out there.”
