At the Terezin concentration camp in 1944, a group of prisoners gathered for the last time to perform Verdi's Requiem, led by Rafael Schachter, founder of the Prague Chamber Opera and also a Jewish prisoner. Defiant Requiem, Verdi at Terezin tells the story of this incredible performance, as well as the story of conductor Murry Sidlin, who traveled to Terezin in order to once again perform the Requiem, 70 years after the Shoah.
Northern Hills will be hosting a documentary film screening in anticipation of a performance of the Defiant Requiem here in Cincinnati on October 23rd by the Queen City Opera. More information about the stage performance can be found at The Defiant Requiem Foundation and at Queen City Opera. We will be joined by Isaac Selya, who will be conducting the Queen City Opera performance and Maestro Murry Sidlin, creator and conductor of Defiant Requiem, for a discussion after the film screening.
We invite you to join us for the screening and discussion. This event is ticketed: please register at nhs-cba.org/defiantrequiem.
