Wednesday, October 21, 2020 / 11:00 am / Zoom
Presented by the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center
The Holocaust Speaker Series, held each Wednesday at 11:00 am, features Holocaust survivors and descendants of survivors sharing stories of life before, during, and after the Holocaust. Join us on Wednesday, October 21 at 11:00 am via Zoom to hear Monique R. share her story.
Monique’s parents, Ernest and Hilda, fled antisemitism in Germany in 1933. At the time, Ernest had a thriving career in journalism and Hilda was in her first year at university. They met and fell in love in Paris. In France, Hilda studied with Maria Montessori and Ernest was active in a group to help exiled writers. In 1939, Ernest was sent to the first of half a dozen French work camps for enemy aliens. Monique was born in 1940 in Bellac near the last labor camp where Ernest was imprisoned.
