Annual Hornstein Lecture in Remembrance of the Holocaust and Human Spirit Co-sponsored by The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education. Following the Holocaust, during which 90% of the pre-war 3,500,000 Polish Jews were murdered by Germans and accomplices, the vast majority of the survivors left Poland. Many of those who remained gave up their Jewish identity to the extent that they often never told their children or grandchildren that they were ever Jewish. Since 1989, with the fall of the Communist regime, thousands upon thousands of Poles have discovered that they really have Jewish roots. Rabbi Micael Schudrich, the Chief Rabbi of Poland, will share with us these stories of Jewish discovery as well as the situation of Jewish communal life in Poland today. Rabbi Schudrich is a member of the Rabbinical Council of America and the Conference of European Rabbis. The Lusia and Stephen Hornstein endowment fund provides an annual program in remembrance of the Holocaust and the Human Spirit, and honors the couple's memory along with their extraordinary life of achievement, courage, optimism, and goodness.
