Professor Samantha Baskind of Cleveland State University discusses her recently published book, Moses Jacob Ezekiel: Jewish, Confederate, Expatriate Sculptor. She addresses the question of how this prolific nineteenth-century sculptor is largely forgotten today. Ezekiel was the first renowned Jewish American artists and one of the most popular artist-celebrities of his day. Baskind conducted some of her research for the book at the American Jewish Archives and the Skirball Museum. Following her illustrated lecture, the author will sign copies of her book and guests will have the opportunity to visit three important Ezekiel sculpture at the Skirball Museum.
