“How could this happen?”
“Why did it happen to people like me?”
“I’m afraid. Am I safe?”
Answering questions like these from children in the wake of the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh can be challenging for parents, who may struggle with what information to share with their kids, how much of it to share, and when to share it. The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, the Nancy and David Wolf Holocaust and Humanity Center, and Rockwern Academy invite parents to attend a panel discussion with experts in education, trauma response, and antisemitism. The program will empower parents with the resources and perspectives they need to sensitively respond to their children’s fears and answer their questions in the most productive way, and it will provide a forum for parents to get their own questions answered.
Jackie Congedo, JCRC Director, will moderate the discussion. Our panelists will include:
- Rabbi Laura Baum, Rockwern Head of School
- Sarah Weiss, HHC Executive Director
- Dr. Julie Bemerer, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Child Trauma Psychologist
