These measures, going from travel bans to containment orders and closures of businesses can be seen as tests on democratic governments' commitment to liberties and civil rights. In some cases, whether the crisis has been used as an opportunity to advance political agenda has been questioned.
In other parts of the world, propaganda and opacity have been at play, with dire impacts. Not only authoritarian regimes have disregarded the needs of their populations, but their way of dealing with the crisis has been disruptive in many aspects at the global level.
