Honoring the Legacy of Jeff Elkus

"Do not let what you CANNOT do interfere with what you CAN do." – Jeff Elkus z"l, quoting basketball coach John Wooden.

As we mark a year since Jeff's passing, his legacy reminds us to embrace hope and move forward with purpose.

Jeff Elkus believed in turning obstacles into opportunities, and his life was a testament to that mindset. His unwavering commitment to the Jewish community and Sycamore Athletics was evident in every action he took. He showed us that "anything worth doing is worth doing right" and that we must "leave the world a better place than how we found it."

At the final home football game of the season last year, we proudly supported the dedication of the Jeff Elkus Press Box at Sycamore Stadium, a tribute to the voice, heart, and soul of Sycamore Athletics. Jeff’s family, including his parents Nancy and Steve, gathered on the field to unveil this meaningful honor, joined by the Mayerson JCC and the Sycamore Athletic community.

Jeff taught us to "just be there"—that showing up, engaging with others, and leading with purpose makes all the difference. His perseverance and enthusiasm continue to inspire us all. May his memory and spirit live on within our community and among Sycamore fans alike.

Join us in honoring Jeff's legacy by embracing his belief: "Just be there." Show up, engage with your community, and lead with purpose.
